Core Camp to Club Rush
Gabriella Melgarejo
Renaissance/Link Crew Coordinator
September 1, 2022
Position Assessment: For this year, from Core Camp to the completion of Club Rush, the Renaissance and Link Crew team has been handed tasks to various projects. Freshman Orientation was our first Link Crew event, Alizeh created the new Freshmen groups to use for Orientation and all of us created the nametags together for the freshmen. We all attended Freshman Orientation, working on different tasks in the set-up of the event, like setting up the nametags on the tables for the freshmen. Next, we worked for the Black Light Rally, cutting out the tape for the students to use and then we set-up and cleaned up for the Back to School dance. We also cut out the tickets for the Back to School dance. We also are working on sorting through the postcards that the freshman made on Freshman Orientation. For the August Student of the Month, we chose Asia Rose and Chetan Harvey, filled out an announcement post for them, created social media posts for them, and interviewed them. We also were at Back to School night, helping out any parents who were lost around the school.
Standing Committee: For Link Crew, we were able to execute Freshman orientation day and help the parents at Back to School night. We are also on a new committee to revamp Renaissance rewards.
Special Committee: I participated in the dance committee by helping set up and clean up after the dance was finished, and by cutting out the tickets for the dance. I also worked in Club Rush by representing the Red Cross. I was also in the colored tape committee for the Black Light Rally.
Mentorship Evaluation/ Completion at time of meeting: Brianna Alvarez is my mentor this year and I am glad that I got her because she is very kind and helpful to me and I feel like I can relate to her. While we have not been very close together, whenever we have our mentor seats in class, she is always there to help me and she is very easy to work with. I’m excited to be working with her and I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.
Concerns: My concern is that we have not been productive enough, which I believe that we need to sort out soon because Homecoming will be soon and we need to be the most productive that we can be so that we find the way to be least stressed. I remember what Makenzie said, about knowing when we have to work, and I think that is very important to know because there will be plenty of times where we have to be working very hard, we do not have enough time to goof off.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes out to Alizeh because she has been working very hard in Leadership, especially since she was the committee leader for the Black Light Rally and was very productive and on top of it, she has gotten all of her work done so quickly so I am really proud of her.
Change: One change would be how we cleaned up for the dance. I felt like there were a lot of people standing around and just talking instead of cleaning, which made us take longer to finish cleaning up. If everyone was cleaning I feel like we would’ve been done very quickly.
My Impact: My impact is the awareness that I helped spread of Club Rush and additional information for the other events at our school.

September to Homecoming
Gabriella Melgarejo
Renaissance/Link Crew Coordinator
October 17, 2022
Position Assessment: Link Crew was given postcards that had short letters written on them by Link Crew leaders, directed to the freshmen on our campus. Our job with these cards was to sort them out and see which ones would be able to be sent out, so we looked through them all, and came together at the end to finalize the decisions and sort out the ones that we put in the “maybe” pile. After this, we worked on the September Student of the Month, choosing Vivian Parsons and Gabriel Ortmann, which was a choice that was given to us by Mr. Felver. We were able to interview them, ask them some questions about school and their life, and create social media posts for each of them and we also filled out an announcement post so that everyone on our campus would know who the September Student of the Month is. The social media post was posted on Instagram for more coverage for these students. Mr. Rangel has been emailed in regards to revamping the Renaissance program, so we are waiting for the meeting for this committee.
Standing Committee: I participated in the Link Crew standing committee by sorting through the postcards and deciding which ones were good and bad.
Special Committee: I was a part of many Homecoming committees, such as the Coronation Committee, where we set up for the Powderpuff game and decorated the football stadium during the 6th and 7th periods on October 6th. I was a part of the lip sync committee, where I and some other Juniors got together and created a dance for the lip sync competition. I was a part of the float building committee, I helped create the float at Ava Brochinni’s house. I was also a part of the committee for the lemonade stands for our class.
Mentorship Evaluation/ Completion at time of meeting: Brianna has been very helpful, if I ask her questions about my website she always knows how to answer my questions and is very patient with me. I feel like she is a welcoming and kind person, so it is very easy to ask her these questions. I feel like we are also learning from each other in some way because of the way that we figure out problems together.
Concerns: My concern is that during the workdays I have noticed that people have not been very productive. Workdays are a good source of time to get all of your work done in Leadership, so I feel like people should be talking with each other less and getting their work done more. This is also important because a lot of people here have much work to get done, so it would be unfair for them to get this opportunity revoked.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes to Kylee Brown because she has been so helpful with everything in Homecoming, she truly had so much work these past weeks and was still able to be so kind and helpful, especially when we were practicing our lip sync dance. She stayed patient and collected, which is something that I admire.
Change: One change that I would have is the productivity rate of the Juniors working on everything Homecoming. I think if there were more outside people working, we would not have been as rushed at the end, and there would have been less stress on Ava and her mom.
My Impact: My impact was my involvement in several Homecoming activities, which I think made more people excited for Homecoming. By participating in the lip sync and doing the best that I could, I hope that people were able to see my effort and radiate that energy off into other Homecoming activities. By working on the float, I also hope that more people want to go help so that the Juniors can have a great float.

Formal ASB Meeting- Adapted
Position Assessment: Through the workdays that we were given as a class, the Renaissance team has been able to complete most of the paperwork and other to-do’s during class by staying consistent and making progress on the procedure form for Study Buddy night and the purchase order. Study Buddy night has been the focal point for our work, so we have been discussing how we should change it up by inviting teachers to come to the event and helping students with their finals if they have any questions. Teachers would sit at tables that are designated for their class, so either math, history, english, or science, and students have the option to come sit at that table and ask for help. In case students don’t need any help at the moment or if they would like to converse with their friends or work alone, there will also be other areas for those students to work in. This was created so any student who would come to Study Buddy night would be able to find somewhere to sit. Several emails were drafted to invite/spread awareness about this event, such as emails to teachers, students, Link Crew, and parents, so that this event can get the most publicity possible. This is also because we want people to utilize all their resources and not get behind during finals season. We have completed the Purchase Order for this event, buying different sorts of snacks and waters and juices for anyone to enjoy during the event. We worked on the procedure form during class so we were able to get it finished quickly. Sofia made the social media posts that will be posted later on as Study Buddy night approaches and I will write out the Announcement Forms as Study Buddy night gets closer in order to get more awareness. We have also completed the Purchase Order for the Holiday night rally, ordering candy canes and marshmallows for the students to enjoy. Our Student of the Month candidates for October were Harleen Kaur and Harsimran Kaler, both participants were very excited to have been picked for Student of the Month and were proud to get recognized, which makes me very happy to see. Their announcement posts were completed to announce these students so that their success can be celebrated, after we completed interviews with both of them and made social media posts that can further honor the hard work that both of these students put into their classes. For the Student of Month for November, we have already picked our candidates and have interviewed one of them and we are planning to interview the other on Thursday. From there, we will be able to create a social media post about both of them, which has been started by Alizeh, and Sofia already completed the announcement form for November Student of the Month. We also have all worked on Dude be Nice, I participated by ordering a gift from the Asian Culture Club for Ms. Van Vuren and participating in the rally.
Standing Committee: At this time, I have not been a part of any standing committees.
Special Committee: For the special committee, I am planning on working on the project “Grateful for our Origins” this Friday by going over to Ripona and helping them clean up their school. For CASL, I have completed my portion of the prompt by discussing about how our actions towards the student body are done in order to inspire our own core values within them, by inviting the students to several of our events like Homecoming and by treating them with spirit goodies to get them to work with each other, not against, also applying the concept of “we starts with you”. Gia has been very diligent about this work and has been effective by reminding me about the work and checking up on me.
Concern: A concern that I have is the disappearance of our work days. Many people have been goofing off and it frightens me that we will not be able to have our work days anymore because of these people who choose to waste their time by talking with their friends instead of doing work. The work days have helped me so much with completing a lot of Leadership work and I don’t want that gone.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes out to Gia, like I said she was very diligent regarding the CASL work and I know that she is very productive and hardworking in everything that she does. She explained the CASL work to me because I was gone and gave me time to complete it. She checked up on me later and I was able to show her my response and she was happy that I made a lot of progress. She is certainly a leader, this can be seen through her effort and character.
Change: For a change, I think we should implement some sort of system to authenticate the work that you have done during the work days because some people can easily lie about how much work they did in class. While the Daily Debriefs are good at holding people accountable for their work, in the way that they can reflect upon the work they did in the 50 minute period, having some sort of authentication to go along with it would be even better. People have the opportunity to take advantage of their work days and talk with their friends, and yet put that they did a good amount of work in the Daily Debriefs. If you had to add in proof of the work that you completed, I think there would be less people being off-task because they would have to actually present their work at the end of the class period. For example, if you stated that you completed the Procedure Form for your event, you should be able to add in a photo demonstrating the amount of work that you did. These work days are very valuable for some who have a heavy workload, personally, me and the Renaissance team have been able to complete the majority of our work through these work days, so adding in that proof of your work would strengthen the security of our work days so that we are able to continue to have them.
My Impact: My impact has been created through Student of the Month, I could see that both Harsimran and Harleen were very excited to receive this nomination. Especially Harleen, she was scared for the interview because she thought that she was only one of the candidates, and she was so happy to hear that she was already picked to be Student of the Month. I am proud that students are happy to see that they got Student of the Month like this because it demonstrates the purpose of this event.

December
Gabriella Melgarejo
Renaissance/Link Crew Coordinator
December 15, 2022
Position Assessment: For the month of December, the Renaissance and Link Crew team has been working hard, making progress on our Procedure Form every work day for Study Buddy Night, making various POs for Study Buddy night that included the snacks and drinks to be served, and making the PO for the hot chocolate social. We also continued to work on our other regular Renaissance and Link Crew activities, such as selecting the students for November Student of the Month, which were Silas Morris and Jade Diaz. We interviewed both of them, created social media posts with the information that they provided and made announcement posts for both of them so that they can get the recognition they deserve. Study Buddy night was a success, many students talked about how they were able to be productive, many students also got the help that they needed from their teacher by asking them questions. During Study Buddy Night, me, Alizeh, and Sofia, with the help of Gia, served and gave out hot chocolate for the students to enjoy during the night. In total, Sra. McPherson, Ms. Van Vuren, Mrs. Ochoa, and Mr. Felver came, which makes me really happy because there is a lot of involvement. I am happy with how Study Buddy Night ended and so grateful for Alizeh and Sofia for being so hardworking. Before Study Buddy Night, me, Alizeh, and Sofia served hot chocolate in the Holiday Night Rally, during all of the rally, and set up our area beforehand as well. I also participated in the door decorating groups.
Standing Committee: At this time, I was not on any standing committee.
Special Committee: I participated in the door decorating groups, in a group with Mina, Gracie, and Katie. We had a handful of doors that we had to do, such as Ms. Van Vuren’s door and Mrs. Pendleton. We tried our best to come up with the way that would be the most productive and quick to put the wrapping paper on the doors.
Mentorship Evaluation/ Completion at time of meeting: I have not been able to speak on occasion with Brianna, but there have been times where I have been able to have small conversations with her and I always love talking to her because she is so interesting and is someone that can keep a conversation going. I love the energy that she carries with her, I feel like I can bounce off of it and I even feel more comfortable with her because of how kind and open she is. She is the opposite of intimidating and I love that I can have someone like that as my mentor.
Concerns: My concern is that some people have been goofing off, still, with the work days that we have, which is concerning because there is still a large amount of work to do and complete, so I do not understand how people are finding the time to be able to goof off or talk with one another if everybody should have something to do.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes out to Sofia and Alizeh for all of their hard work and dedication towards the program and how much effort they put into Study Buddy Night with all of the paperwork, like the Procedure form and the multiple purchase orders that we have to do for every event. They are always so resilient and never complain or give up with the work that we have to do and I will always fully support them and trust them to do an amazing job and have creative ideas.
Change: One change that I would have is for the Study Buddy night, if we set up shifts for the Study Buddy night so that we could always be serving hot chocolate, that would be very good so that the students would always be able to have some hot chocolate. Also, everyone else would be able to take a break and be working, as they would only have to work for around 5 minutes.
My Impact: My impact would be with the Study Buddy night as I was partially in charge of the event. I loved seeing all the students come to the event and talk with their friends or ask their teachers questions that they had about the final. I also heard many students say that they were productive which makes me really happy because Study Buddy night served its purpose.

January
Gabriella Melgarejo
Renaissance/Link Crew Coordinator
February 6, 2023
Position Assessment: For the month of January, we worked on Student of the Month and picked a sophomore, Chloe Lautenslager and senior, Kenji Banji. We interviewed these students and created social media posts and announcement forms for them to get the publicity that they deserve. We are also working on the 8th grade day procedure form, so we are hoping to have our meeting soon to figure everything out and see if there are procedure forms to do. We created an email draft asking clubs if they want to participate in a mini-club rush during the lunch of 8th grade day. We designed the shirt, made the groups, and will start name tags soon. The Link Crew interview also went well, so we are excited to see how they will work with the incoming class.
Standing Committee: At this time, I was not on any standing committee.
Special Committee: The special committee that I am on is the Tribe Award one, but not much work has been done since the main part of the work consists of it being on the day of, like setting up for the event, so that will be a later job.
Mentorship Evaluation/ Completion at time of meeting: I was able to have lunch with Gabby D. on Friday, February 3rd, and I thought that this was a fun experience. I invited her along to a Sacred Heart meeting so that she could see what it was about, and she was also able to work on the ESPN video for her Instagram page. She showed us at the end how much she had and I loved the video, it looks like she put a lot of effort into it. We chatted at the end about our classes and I thought that this was an overall fun experience where I got to know my mentor better overall, so I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the semester.
Concerns: My concern is that for the Almond Blossom fundraiser, some people will try to leave during their shift, which is unfair to the rest of us. I know that we had a talk in class about this, but I still worry that some people may try to leave. If we want to develop professionally as a Leadership class, we need to all have accountability.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes out to Gabby D., I love the energy that she carries with her and I feel like it is very easy to talk to her because of how positive she is. She is also involved with a lot of things, like not only Leadership, so I can see that she is very hardworking, and I admire her so much for that. She truly does put effort into everything that she is involved in, especially Leadership through her job as historian.
Change: One change that I would like to see is more work days. I know that some people don’t use their time for the best but I have been able to be very productive on those days and get work done with my fellow Renaissance members on our procedure forms. I feel like a lot of my work has been piling up recently so to be able to have time to work on that would be amazing.
My Impact: I believe that my impact goes further than what I am involved in within Leadership, but through the other clubs that I am a part of as well. For the Red Cross, we had people make posters and turn them into us for volunteer hours, and I am so happy with all the posters that were made. I hope that my impact in this was seen by the posters that I made and the awareness that hopefully more people will have surrounding the Red Cross club at our school. My impact soon, regarding 8th Grade Welcome Day, is also something that I am excited for.

1. What committee(s) have you been place on, explain them, what is your role?
I am on the committee of Gift to Staff and we will be providing breakfast along with other items, such as a notecard with a positive message to staff outside of teachers. My role is to work on some of the procedure forms to buy the fruit juices and notecards, making sure that they are correct and sent in on time and that every staff member will have one of each. I also will be writing some of the messages on the notecards.
2. What did you contribute during the week to the committee work and presentation for next week?
I contributed during the week by assisting Alizeh with any work that she needed done, so setting up the purchase order to get the notecards for the nice messages to the staff and the fruit juices to give them for their breakfast. I found which supplies to get for them on Amazon and made sure that everyone liked the choices that I made.
3. What will you be in charge of the week of the challenge?
I will be in charge of preparing the notecards with the positive messages and packaging them with the assorted breakfast items so that the staff can enjoy them on the morning of. Most likely, we would also be getting the muffins around that time or week so I would be going with the other committee members to pick up the muffins so that they can be fresh.
4. What are some pros that you saw during this week while planning and executing various items?
Some pros that I saw were that a lot of people were working and made much progress regarding their committees because I could see on the slides that they completed most of their work and are just waiting for the week of actually be able to execute that since a lot of the tasks are more dependent on being near the actual week of the Challenge.
5. What are some cons that you saw during this week while planning and executing various items?
Some cons that I saw were that as the week progressed, people got a bit more lazy and started doing less and less work or getting distracted on other things like talking to their friends. But I still say that this was at a minimum, as most people understood that this event is very important and we need to be on top of it to be able to be successful. The amount of talking that there was wasn’t over the top and it didn’t distract me in any way, but I did notice it sometimes when I was working. I don’t understand how some people were just goofing off slightly if we had much work to do that week but the positive part is that I’m sure that most if not all did turn in their work.
6. What will you be speaking about in the formal presentation?
I will speak about what has been done regarding our work within the committee with Emily, just giving a run down on everything that we completed during the week. The various POs have been done and they were already done early in the week, because we knew how to find the muffins, juices, bags, and notecards efficiently and quickly without wasting any time. We just haven’t gotten to the actual preparation because that is more towards the actual challenge because we do not need to buy the muffins now.
7. What is your overall opinion of the event idea?
My overall opinion of the event idea is that I am excited for what is about to come because i feel like we are much more prepared than we were than last year, and I don’t know what exactly contributed to all of this but Mak has been doing an amazing job at keeping in touch with all of the committee lead members to make sure that everything is going smoothly. She also gives us updates every day or tells us when the work is due which is very helpful because I can keep track of everything that I have to do. I am especially excited for our committee work because I feel like it is a good idea to give back to the staff and I have been involved with the POs and such so I am very involved and up to date. Overall, I feel good, and I expect everyone else to have been productive.
8. Do you believe this class will be successful in planning and executing this event?
Yes, as I have stated in the question above, Mak has done an amazing job at keeping everyone on track, including myself, and I feel like she would not let people be lazy and not do the work or not turn it in on time. But at the same time, all of the responsibilities of the work should not be on her, so that is where the rest of the class comes into play. I am also positive in this aspect because I have seen people in class working very hard and I keep track of the document that was shared to all of us and I see that people are making progress every single day and I am so proud. They are finishing the assignments every day and are quick to do the work. Along with the other assignments, such as the mentor coloring book, people have been productive. We just need to keep this streak going which may prove to be a difficult feat but if we have all of this work done already it would just be wasteful for us to just throw it all away and become lazy.
9. What should be done to peers in the class that do not fulfill their jobs?
I feel like they should receive a serious punishment of some kind, because they need to understand that we all need to contribute to this project and some of us just cannot sit in the back and watch all the others do the work because that is simply very unfair. I feel like they should get a heavy assignment assigned to them so that they can understand what it is like to have to do hard work because of all of the work that they skipped out on. This could also be a very serious issue because if they do not fulfill their positions that means that the entirety of the Challenge could fail and the student body and staff could be disappointed in us because we were not able to fulfill what we were supposed to do.
10. What is your favorite aspect to this event? What are you excited most for occurring?
My favorite aspect to this event is the dance that is going to occur. I feel like this year it has many more add-ons to it, which hopefully can make more people go to the dance or feel excited about all of the events that are happening. But I am also really excited for our committee work because I feel like it is time for us to give back to the staff and the breakfast and nice notes to them is just the perfect gift for that. But like I said, I will probably have to work at the dance for Red Cross and Leadership so I am excited for that because I hope to see people excited about all of the additions and the general atmosphere of the dance.

Final ASB Report: April and May

Renaissance/Link Crew Coordinator
May 5th, 2023
Position Assessment: For the months of April and May, the other Link Crew coordinators and I have worked on completing Student of the Month. The Students of the Month for the month of April were the freshman, Nicolas Martinez, and the sophomore, Logan Trickey. We followed the standard procedure with them, we emailed them, interviewed them, created an announcement form to celebrate their accomplishments, and then created their social media posts with the information that we got from their interviews. We also have been working on the procedure form for the Study Buddy Nights, we have completed the purchase order for the snacks that we will be getting for that night. For example, we got Cheez-Its, different types of chips, caprisuns, and water for the students to enjoy while they are at that night. We have also already ordered the snacks for that.
Standing Committee: At this time, I was not on any standing committee.
Special Committee: I participated in the Tribe Award special committee, which meant that I helped set up the background for the Tribe Awards by tying some balloons together for the balloons that were going to be surrounding the backdrop.
Mentorship Evaluation/ Completion at time of meeting: I have been able to speak with Gabby here and there when we are seated next to each other during certain class periods and I am really happy that she is my mentor because she has a positive spirit about her, that makes it easy to speak to her and talk to her about her day. She asks me some questions to start a conversation and I always appreciate it because I feel like it is easy to talk to her.
Concerns: My concern is that the end of the year is coming up very quickly and this is kind of scary because I still see people goofing off at times. It is scary because the actual execution of The Challenge is coming up very soon, and I know that some people need to start doing some work for that. I just hope that this year, The Challenge is successful, and I am somewhat confident that it will be successful because Mak is a very strong president and we have some people in the class that are very hard working as well. I just hope that as we get closer to The Challenge, I see more people working on their projects.
Positive Comment: My positive comment goes out to Mina because I have seen him work on The Challenge every time that we have a work period, and I see him organizing the letters and being an amazing leader. I also love his personality and how easy it can be to talk to him and have a conversation with him. I believe that he is an integral part of Leadership. This class certainly would not be the same without him and I am glad that he made the decision to be a part of this class.
Change: One change that I would have is if we could have more work days next week to be able to prepare for The Challenge. I do not know if we need several days, but a few would just be good to meet up with our committees, so that we all know what is expected of us and the amount of work that we should be doing. It would also be really helpful to just get a breakdown on everything that needs to be done, or everything that is already done, so that we can focus our energy on The Challenge.
My Impact: My impact would be with the Student of the Month that we do every month. I am really proud of what we have done with these projects, as I have seen some people over the year be very gracious for receiving this award because they are being recognized for what they are doing, like the hard work that they have done. Even though this award is not something like a national recognition, it still does a good job of making students feel like they belong, of making them feel like they are being recognized. I am very glad that I was able to be a part of this, and I am really happy that Mak decided to bring this back for this year. I hope that next year, the new Renaissance coordinators enjoy this as much as I did.
